Use Timothy Adegoke’s Case To Revamp Image Of Nigeria Police, Lawyer Tells IGP

A lawyer, Mr Wale Ogunade, has urged the Inspector General of Police, IGP Alkali Baba Usman, to use the case of the alleged murder of a postgraduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State, Timothy Adegoke Oludare, to revamp the image of the Nigerian Police.

Ogunade who wrote an open letter to the Inspector General of Police on behalf of the deceased family urged the police boss to set up a specialised homicide team be set up to investigate the matter, saying, the manner in which the Osun State Command is handling the matter is worrisome.

Recall that the deceased, Timothy Adegoke, a Chartered Accountant from Eruwa, Oyo State, was declared missing by his family after he left Abuja on Friday, 5th November 2021 to Akure Airport to Ife. He later lodged at Hilton Hotel at Ile-Ife in Osun state.

Chief Ramon Adedoyin, Chairman of Hilton Hotel and Resort, where the deceased lodged and six other persons were indicted in the alleged murder of Timothy Adegoke and they have since been arrested by the police in Osun State.

Ogunade’s letter to the IGP read in part: “We act as Solicitors to Parties Interested in Justice in the above-mentioned case.

“Our attention has been drawn to the investigation activities by officers of the Osun State Command and wants to draw your attention to the following:

“The said case is a Homicide Case and not a missing person or kidnap case. The way the matter is being handled by your Osun State Command is worrisome, more so as the case has attracted international attention.

“That the twist of initial denial by the  Hotel owner and his staff and the follow-up developments, including the Son of the Hotel owner coming into the picture, are interesting and surprising.

“That the issue of a video, made by the Hotel owner, while in custody, is intriguing. That these and many other issues that have shown up are begging for Justice in this matter.

“That it is in this regard that we demand that a specialized homicide team be set up to investigate this matter. That we want you to use this case to revamp the image of the Nigeria Police Force  in matters like this that gets compromised and moduled up.”
