COVID-19: Our Frontliners Are Unsung Heroes - Olamiju

The Special Adviser to Osun Governor on Public Health, Dr Olasiji Olamiju has described the health workers in the State as unsung heroes who are sacrificing their lives against many odds.

Dr. Olamiju stated this during the presentation of award to health workers in Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC) Ile-Ife, on Thursday.

He said, "without the health workers, we would simply have no chance and no hope against this pandemic, because they are truly our last line of defense.”

"As you are aware, there is still a decline in COVID-19 cases at the moment. Therefore, don’t be carried away by the euphoria of saving lives and put your lives in danger. Always ensure strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols for your safety."

He added that the awardees which includes doctors, nurses, laboratory scientists and other staffs of the teaching hospital as well as health workers at the frontline at the primary, secondary and tertiary health facilities, the isolation centres across the State are all deserving of our appreciation and commendation.

Olamiju charged the workers to remain committed to their duties and always show empathy while attending to sick.

Earlier, the Chief Medical Director, OAUTHC, Ile-Ife, Professor Victor Adetiloye, expressed joy that no health worker in the hospital lost his or her life to the pandemic.

He attributed the success of response to the pandemic in the teaching hospital, to the proactiveness of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, the Deputy Governor, Mr Gboyega Alabi who is also the Chairman, Technical Committee on Coronavirus and the Special Adviser on Public, Dr. Olasiji Olamiju who took the campaigns against the deadly disease round the nooks and crannies of the State.

The CMD who could not hide his joy also appreciated the Governor for not only building an isolation centre for them but equipping it to function, with sufficient supply of PPE by the state government.
