NANS/JCC OYO STATE MET WITH THE MANAGEMENT AND TRADE UNIONS OF LAUTECH
The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Oyo State chapter, on Wednesday 20th of November, 2019 met with the management and members Of the Trade Unions of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, over the closure of the school and the strike actions of the various Trade Union.
The NANS team led by the Ag.Chairman and Secretary, Comrade Omoniyi Afeez and Comrade Salawudeen Oyewale George, was received by the Vice Chancellor (VC), Prof Ologunde Micheal, Deputy VC, Dean Student Affairs, the SSANU Chairman, SSANU Secretary, the NASU Chairman, NASU Secretary, NASU treasurer and other principal officers.
The meeting focused on ways to provide a lasting solution to the incessant strike actions in Lautech; proper for; and How the Student Body can come in actively with the aim of facilitating the restoration of academic activities to the school. We pleaded with the school management to be logical with their approach in relating with the two State Governments so that the effort to put the school back on track will not be truncated as we are also trying our possible best to meet the two owner States on the way forward from our end.
The meeting yielded a positive result as the Vice Chancellor assured us that steps are been taken as ten-man committee has been set up by the owner States and to be chaired by a person of reputable character, neither from the two states. While reacting on what the VC said Comrade Erwin suggested that amidst the committee set up, there should be a student Representative. To this suggestion, the VC replied that various parties involved will be asked of their stand, what they feel as a way forward and there will be a memorandum to that effect.The NANS leaders lauded the VC for his efforts and contributions so far, and urge him to be more proactive and continue to be student-friendly.
While meeting with the Members of Trade Union, we stated it clearly that as NANS leaders in the State, we have a responsibility to facilitate reconciliation between all parties involved, the management, the Trade Unions, the State Governments and the Student populace. The objective of this meeting with the Lautech management is to settle the differences on ground and pave the way for the reopening of the school.
“We urged the management , the Trade Unions and the owner States of the school to find a lasting solution and restore academic back to the school in due time as the effect will be felt by the students if not properly manage. However, as the student Body in oyo state, we will not let this happen because our sole responsibility is to protect the interest of our students and we are here to consult following promptly the 3C's Of Aluta.
