Professor Afolabi, the Chairman of Lautech Governing council.

Vote of confidence on Chairman Governing Council Professor Oladapo  Afolabi
Life is never easy. There is work to be done and obligations to be met, obligation to truth, to justice and to liberty:- John F kennedy

Greatest Ladokites, distinguished political leaders, I am delighted to stand before you today and address you as the democratically elected president of the students’ union. You will agree with me that these set of executives are the most controversial but we have always come out stronger from our predicament as a union and as the president.

President Laurel

Earlier this year, the union was proscribed following the campaign of the then governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the person of Engineer Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde who is now the Executive Governor of the pace setter state. We pleaded, lobbied and negotiated before our prestigious union was reinstated although we had to let go of certain privileges as a union and personally as a student union leader.

Although the proscription of the students union was aimed at reforming the activities of student unionism, the timely intervention of His Excellency Engineer Oluseyi Makinde and Professor Oladapo Afolabi (Chairman Governing council) helped in reinstating our union. The primary Objective of being a student is academic excellence and training for societal integration. This institution has been lagging behind in time past because of incessant strikes and disruption in academic calendar, how can we explain a situation whereby  a program that is supposed to be completed in five  years takes seven years. This is condemnable and inhumane and a negative in the education sector.

Professor Ologunde, LAUTECH Vice Chancellor

At this junction, the entire students of this great University through their elected representative wishes to appreciate the chairman of the university Governing Council in the person of professor Oladapo Afolabi an erudite international scholar of high pedigree for his herculean efforts in repositioning the university to greater and lofty heights.

This is aptly demonstrated in the recently released webometrics ranking of the universities in Nigeria where our School Ladoke Akintola University of Technology emerged as the best state university in the whole country and there was also remarkable improvement in its ranking position among both state and federal universities inclusive for the year 2019.
The entire students’ body appreciates our chairman Governing Council for his golden efforts and we pray that the almighty Father shall perfect everything that concerns you and your entire family in his holy name.

His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde has been in solidarity with the institution since the day he was sworn in as the Executive Governor. If we have enjoyed this kind of support and encouragement from previous administrations I might be on National youth Service by now.  Thank you your Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde.

During his campaign at 1200 lecture theatre, Governor Makinde promised to devote at least 10% of the state annual budget to education and also better qualitative infrastructure to our dear Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, and on this note, I want to implore his Excellency to make good his promise on infrastructure since the first part of 10% of the budgetary allocation to education has been implemented.

Equivocally, the students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Ogbomoso congratulate the Executive Governor of Osun state, Alh Gboyega Oyetola on his victory at the Supreme Court of Justice, indeed (ilerioluwa ti se) and we would love to appreciate his timely intervention in the payment of the JULY monthly subvention and we hope he will continue to support the institution.

I will also like to appeal to the council and management of Ladoke Akintola University of  Technology  Ogbomoso to review the cases of our students who could not write examinations due to inability to pay their tuition fees.

Behind every tunnel cometh light and now we have a university where expected date of graduation could be projected and also a system that works in all areas all thanks to the Vice Chancellor Prof Michael Olufisayo Ologunde, Prof Sunday Adewale, Prof Tunde Olabiyisi, Dr Azeem Ige the Dean students Affairs and all the stakeholders that helped in returning stability back to LAUTECH, The Alumni Association led by honourable Onilede Solomon, LAUTECH Parent Forum, Ogbomoso Parapo, ASUU, SSANU, NASU, NAT and the past students union leaders that championed the 2016 Abuja struggle, Ex- President Solace, Mr Planet, A.G Horla Nawty, Commissioner B, Comrade Tunbo, Com Mighty, Otunba issa Farouq, to mention but a few.

It is on this note and preamble and by the special powers conferred on me as the president of  the students union I hereby pass a vote of confidence on Professor Oladapo Afolabi as the best Chairman of Governing Council ever in the annals of  history of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho and we the entire student’s body desire his continued leadership at the helm of affairs for more progress and development to this great institution.
Thank you ladies and gentlemen.
