THE NIGERIAN BIOINFORMATICS AND GENOMICS NETWORK (NBGN): A COLLABORATIVE INITIATIVE TO STRENGTHEN GENOMICS AND BIOINFORMATICS IN NIGERIA

The Nigerian Bioinformatics and Genomics Network (NBGN) is a national initiative to
facilitate collaborative activities amongst Nigerian bioinformatics and genomics
investigators in Nigeria and abroad. Given the fast advancement of the fields of
bioinformatics and genomics and the need to tap from, and be part of, the scientific
breakthroughs this discipline holds, NBGN was formed in 2018 and registered with
Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria in 2019. We are a network of Nigerian trained
geneticists, genomicists, bioinformaticians, and computation biologists working to
achieve these aims with multi-disciplinary membership in and outside Nigeria. We
seek to provide a networking platform, bridge identified genomics and bioinformatics
knowledge gaps, foster research collaborations, provide and disseminate
opportunities, within the field of genomics, bioinformatics, and computational biology.
Our audience span across several works of life and professions in Nigeria and we are
dynamic in the approaches we employ to achieve our goals. We do this by tapping
individual knowledge, partnering with societies, networks, research centres,
government organisations, educational institutions, and industries both in Nigeria and
abroad. We aim to be the leading bioinformatics and genomics network in Africa and
establish computational biology, bioinformatics and genomics as a mainstream life
science research approach in Nigeria. All these we do for the greater good and to
inspire change. NBGN is run by its pioneering leadership as well as a network advisory
board based across the globe. For additional details about who we are, what we do,
and how to join us either as a member or partner, please visit the network website:
