JUNE 12 APPROVES AS DEMOCRACY DAY BY HOUSE OF REPS

The Members of the green Chambers have ratified June 12 as the new Democracy Day in Nigeria.

The members of the house of Representatives approved this earlier today while in view of a detail account on “A Bill for an Act to Amend the Public Holidays Act, Cap. P40, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 to bring the Act in tandem with the current realities and exigencies of the modern times and to declare June, 12 as Democracy Day in Nigeria and for Related Matters”.

In view of the details account during plenary, the lawmakers ratified the amendments to three clauses ‎in the Act, as advised in the report.

With this fresh directed change, May 29 has been erased in the establishing Act, which gives way for June 12 as the fresh Democracy Day in the country.

Recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had in June, gave the order that the nation’s Democracy Day should, henceforward, take place on June 12 of every year as against the May 29 that is being used in the past.

Moshood Abiola was also giving the honour as the winner of the revoked June 12, 1993 presidential election,with the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR).
