BREAKING: 15 APC AND 3 PDP LAWMAKERS DECAMP TO AA IN IMO STATE
Eighteen lawmakers of the Imo State House of Assembly among which is the Speaker,Acho Ihim have decamped to Action Alliance from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People's Democratic Party (PDP).
The announcement was made by the Speaker,Acho Ihim, during an impromptu sitting at the chamber of the state House of Assembly,Owerri, in a letter sent by the defectors.
The Speaker elaborated that 15 lawmakers from All Progressives Congress (APC), himself inclusive, and in addition three lawmakers of People's Democratic Party (PDP), have left for a new Party Action Alliance.
With respect to Speaker Acho Ihim,he gave the reason that impunity, injustice and abuse of the rule of law was their reason for leaving the ruling party.
Currently,AA is now the majority in the Imo State House of Assembly and APC is now minority.
According to Adekka TV correspondence in Owerri,the Imo State Capital,he said that the defection is unconnected with the aftermath of APC Primary Election in the State,which divides the Outgoing Governor of the State,Governor Rochas Okorocha and the National Chairman of the Party,Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
In his reaction, the APC Chairman in the State,Mr Daniel Nwafor portrayed the decision of the Lawmakers as not favored by fortune which is also regretted.Mr Nwafor have the believe that APC will still come victorious in 2019 Governorship Election in the State.
“I have received the news of the defection of some APC lawmakers to Action Alliance and I must say it’s regrettable and unfortunate,” the APC chairman reported.
Mr Daniel added “Their defection will surely shake our party, the All Progressives Congress, but we will not be deterred.
“We have to remain strong and restrategise to cover up for the loss, it’s politics. We have to unite in our party and remain focus so we can win the general elections come 2019.”
